Camp Days

Remember when our names were animals and objects
When we were the coolest people on earth for five days at a time
When our Top 40 included songs of moose and marshmallows
When we were chased by our paparazzi
Small children with disposable cameras

Remember when we cursed in bursts
Before we burst
On adventures to Walmart and ice cream shops
When filling balloons as crowds of girls were nearly within earshot
In tents every night, to relieve the day's tension

Remember how we'd stumble through the woods on rainy days
Stomping in our rainboots, screaming out our campsongs
As lightning struck, an inch from our faces
And children dragged their sleeping bags down the trail

Remember the nights of sleeping on yoga mats
Velociraptor races in a foggy field
Laughing until we burst, at jokes no-one else would understand

Remember camp days and camp nights
Hiking and archery, pink tents and floor cake
Remember a summer I will never forget
